How To Scale With Peace

Jul 23, 2025

Can I get real with you for a minute?

For years, I believed the biggest lie in business: If you want to scale, you have to sacrifice peace.

I thought grinding was godly. That 80-hour weeks showed dedication. That if I wasn't exhausted, I wasn't working hard enough.

So I built that way. Started my career at American Express in Brazil, came to the UK 20 years ago with HSBC. Climbed the corporate ladder and ended up with 150 people reporting to me, 8 million customers, 80 billion pounds of balance sheet.

From the outside? Total success. From the inside? I was spiritually broken.

I was making decisions from anxiety instead of anointing. Treating my relationship with God like a weekend hobby instead of a daily partnership.

Even when I left corporate and built my own digital marketing agency (which we eventually sold for $30 million), I was still building everything in my own strength.

Then came my Red Sea moment.

In 2023, our parent company hit financial troubles in the US. We were forced to buy our business back. Suddenly I'm restructuring costs, seeking new investors, trying to keep 85 people employed while everything's falling apart.

That's when I finally surrendered.

I told God: "This business is yours. Do what you want. I can't do this in my own strength anymore."

And that's when I discovered the most counterintuitive truth about scaling:

Peace isn't what you find at the end of your journey. It's the strategy that accelerates it.

The Divine Growth Pattern

Here's what I've learned after mentoring over 50 faith-led business owners and entrepreneurs: There's a divine pattern to how God scales our influence, and it's nothing like what business schools teach.

Vision → Disruption → Awakening → Multiplication

Most entrepreneurs try to skip straight to multiplication without going through awakening. They want God to bless their hustle instead of transform their heart.

But here's the thing. After every big vision from the Lord comes disruption. The desert. The difficulties. We see it in the Bible all the time.

That's not punishment. That's preparation. A season of maturity that leads to awakening.

And awakening changes everything:

  • Suffering becomes clarity

  • Sacrifice becomes capacity

  • Silence becomes collaboration

"The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom like the crocus." (Isaiah 35:1)

Even in the desert, there's hope. There's beauty. There's a way to get through it with peace and joy.

3 Practices That Changed Everything

After going through my own desert and finding my way to the other side, I've distilled it down to three practices that'll transform not just your business, but your entire relationship with work:

1. Clarity

"Write the vision and make it plain." (Habakkuk 2:2)

Your vision isn't just what you want to achieve. It's what God wants to accomplish through you.

Most entrepreneurs are building in the fog. They've got goals, but not vision. Strategies, but not clarity.

Here's what sacred clarity looks like:

  • Who are you called to serve? (Even Jesus wasn't called to serve everyone. He focused on "the lost sheep of Israel")

  • How are you uniquely equipped with your talents and experience?

  • Why does it matter in the Kingdom?

When you get the who, how, and why clear, you become magnetic. People get your message. They see you're authentic. The right people will raise their hand and want to work with you naturally.

The best way to find this clarity? Invite the Holy Spirit in.

I spend time every week asking: "Holy Spirit, what are You calling me to do next? Who are You calling me to serve?"

Just ask. Wait. Listen for the whispers.

2. Capacity

Here's a practical exercise: Write down an important goal for the next 12 months. Could be revenue, number of clients, whatever matters to you.

Now multiply it by 10.

I'm not putting pressure on you. I'm actually trying to reduce it. Because it's impossible to work 10 times harder, right? So what would need to change in your approach?

This is where most scaling advice gets it wrong. They tell you to do more, work harder, optimize everything. But Kingdom capacity isn't about doing more. It's about becoming more.

Here's the secret: Focus on the 20% of your activities that generate 80% of your results. That's usually your unique talent. Sales, product development, strategy, whatever you're naturally gifted at.

Create capacity for that. Protect it. Build a business model around it.

Two practical ways to buy back your time:

  1. Audit your calendar - Mark everything green (gives you energy) or red (drains you). Add dollar signs (1-4) for revenue importance. Focus on green + high dollar activities.

  2. Preload your calendar - Block 2-3 hours daily for your deep work. For me, Mondays are content days. I block three hours, create all my content for the week, and I'm done.

And here's what most business owners miss: Rest is part of capacity.

You can't give what you don't have. Protect your Sabbath. Take time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. That's not selfish. That's biblical.

3. Divine Collaboration

"Two are better than one." (Ecclesiastes 4:9)

God never calls you to build alone.

But most entrepreneurs are secretly scared of collaboration. They think needing help means they're weak.

That's not faith. That's fear dressed up as independence.

Here's the truth: From inside the bottle, we can't read the label. We need other people to give us perspective, feedback, direction.

Be intentional with your network:

  • Clients and prospects

  • Suppliers and team members

  • Advisors and fellow business leaders

I love this idea: Talk to 10 new strangers each week. Share your vision. You never know what connections will happen.

But above all, protect what really matters: Your relationship with God first, then your spouse, family, and loved ones. Don't compromise these for business relationships.

The Invitation

These three practices (clarity, capacity, collaboration) aren't just business strategies. They're Kingdom principles.

When you align with God's rhythm instead of the world's rush, you don't just succeed... you multiply.

You can scale with peace instead of pressure. You can grow without grinding. You can build God-sized dreams with His strength, not just your own.
