How to Build a Business Without Draining Your Soul

Jun 17, 2025

Dear Kingdom Builder,

This week, I want to share something that's been heavy on my heart - and perhaps yours too.

I've been in countless conversations with Christian entrepreneurs who are winning in business but losing their souls in the process. They're hitting revenue targets, scaling teams, and achieving what the world calls "success", yet they feel spiritually empty, physically exhausted, and emotionally drained.

If this resonates with you, I want you to know: there's a better way.

The Three Pillars of Soul-Preserving Entrepreneurship

1. Align Your Plan to God's Plan

Here's the counterintuitive truth: when we stop striving and start listening, our businesses actually flourish more.

Too many of us are building businesses based on market trends, competitor analysis, or what we think will make money. But what if God has a specific calling for your business that you're missing because you're too busy executing your own agenda?

The shift: Instead of asking "What can I build?" start asking "What is God calling me to build?"

This isn't about being less strategic - it's about being divinely strategic. When your business aligns with God's purpose, you'll find doors opening that you never knew existed.

2. Establish a Rhythm of Grace

The hustle culture has infiltrated the church, and we've somehow convinced ourselves that working seven days a week is a badge of honour. But God literally built rest into the fabric of creation.

Take one day of Sabbath - not as a suggestion, but as a commandment for your wellbeing.

Here's what I've discovered in my own journey: my best business ideas don't come during 12-hour work sessions. They come during walks with my family, quiet moments in prayer, or when I'm completely disconnected from work.

Rest isn't the absence of productivity - it's the foundation of sustainable productivity.

3. Redefine Prosperity

We've been sold a lie that prosperity equals profit. But biblical prosperity is so much richer than that.

True prosperity includes:

  • Peace in your daily operations

  • Purpose that drives your decisions

  • Profit that serves Kingdom purposes

The order matters. When you find peace first, purpose becomes clear. When purpose is clear, profit follows naturally - and it's the kind of profit that doesn't leave you spiritually bankrupt.

A Personal Invitation

If you're feeling the tension between your faith and your business ambitions, I want you to know you're not alone. And more importantly, you don't have to choose between the two.

Some of the most successful entrepreneurs and business owners I know are those who've learned to build businesses that honour God while achieving remarkable results.

This week, I challenge you to:

  1. Set aside 15 minutes to ask God what He wants to say about your business direction

  2. Block out one full day for complete rest (yes, even from business podcasts!)

  3. Write down what prosperity means to you beyond just financial metrics

Stay strong and have a lovely day,

Bruno Genovese
